Food Services

The Shawnee Mission School District Food Services Department provides a variety of healthy food choices to ensure a student’s readiness to learn. We are committed to providing high quality, freshly prepared, nutritious food, and personalized service to all students and staff.

The food services department employs more than 250 professionals that include managers, department heads, food service assistants, supervisors, and office staff. School meals are planned by a registered dietitian and nutritionist to reflect student preferences determined at Nutrition Advisory Councils with input from the food service employees. All  USDA and KSDE guidelines are met via the work of the department and school food service teams.

Breakfast and lunch is served at all schools when school is in session. More than 475,000 breakfasts and 2,300,000 lunches are served annually.

The food services department provides after school snacks for some tutoring programs. Fresh fruit and vegetable grants were received from KSDE for several elementary schools. The grant provides nutrition education along with a fresh fruit or vegetable to every student in that school three days per week.

We welcome you to join your child for breakfast or lunch at their school.  For additional information including access to nutrition information and daily menus, please visit the district food services website.
